PBL is both a curriculum and process approach to education that can be applied at an early age. In the elementary grades, K-5, problem based learning can foster communication, listening, team and leadership skills. In the younger grades, students begin with a more guided path of inquiry and spiral their developing problem solving skills to gradually become more independent, self- directed, problem-solvers as the grade levels progress. Problem based learning also provides an opportunity to incorporate the common core in areas such as science and social studies. We will explore resources for teachers and discuss methods of implementation throughout the grade levels. Participants will work cooperatively to take back tools and ideas they can use in their curriculum.
